What is the 17-4 Ph Stainless Steel:
Type 17-4 PH stainless steel is the most widely used of all of the precipitation-hardening stainless steels. Its valuable combination of properties gives designers opportunities to add reliability to their products while simplifying fabrication and often reducing costs. Type 17-4 PH is a martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel that provides an outstanding combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance, and good mechanical properties at temperatures up to 600°F (316°C). Its unique combination of properties make this alloy an effective solution to many design and production problems.
17-4PH Bar® forgings exhibit very low corrosion rates in high velocity seawater. Combined with their high strength, this makes them the material of choice for marine applications and other similar environments. 17-4PH forgings are also highly resistant to sour gas atmospheres.

Characteristics of 17-4PH Duplex:
17-4 can be heat treated to high levels of strength and hardness, and features corrosion resistance[1] and machinability[2] comparable to austenitic 304 stainless. Being martensitic, 17-4 is magnetic.
17-4 is capable of being hardened up to approximately 44 Rc when heat treated to condition H900.[1]
Overaging (aging beyond the peak strength condition) improves resistance to stress corrosion cracking
Metallurgical Structure
17-4 alloy has a face-centered cubic structure. In the age-hardened Condition a Ni3Al phase is formed with similar structure.
